What is the purpose of this site?
This site is intended to be a resource for authors who wish to self publish a book. It is a collection of checklists and how-tos, with definite steps you can take.
One of the biggest hurdles to the self-published author is producing a book that looks professional. This site will help you make a good-looking layout for your book, as well as make a professional-quality cover.
This site is also a long way from being finished. I’m guessing it’ll take quite a while to flesh everything out.
If you have a tutorial article that you’ve written and you would like to see published here, please contact me. If your tutorial is used I’ll of course be sure to link back to your site or book or whatever you want.
Alright, now on to the important stuff.
Before You Self Publish
- Decisions – There are some decisions you need to make.
- The business side of the self-published author.
- Write your book.
Once you have all those ducks in a row, it’s time to self publish.
Layout Your Text For Publishing
You should prepare your work to be published in print form and in eBook form. For print, you’ll need an appropriately sized and formatted pdf. For ebooks, you will most likely need a simple html or rtf file, depending on where you’re publishing the ebook. This section will help you prepare all of these files.
See the section on Text Layout for more information.
Design Your Cover
Not an artist? Not a problem. There are lots of ways to make a cover that you will be proud of.
See the section on Cover Design for more information.
Publish Your Book
You have a lot of options as you publish your book. Where do you want it listed? Where should you be selling it?
See the Publish section for more information.
Market Your Book
Yes, holding a physical copy of your book in your hands is neat. It’s also cool to just leave a copy lying around your house so when your friends come over, they say, “That’s awesome! I didn’t know you wrote a book!”
However, it’s more satisfying to have not only the book but also go online and buy a new computer with money your book has earned. That will just never happen until you market your book.
See the Market section for more information.
